The Potion Pantry

Rows of coloured bottles line the shelves, each recipe needing ingredients in exactly the right balance.

A potion recipe only works when the ingredients stay in the same ratio. Count, compare, and simplify to keep the mixture stable.

Character
Ratios are comparisons. Once the comparison is clear, the numbers start behaving beautifully.
02
Core Concept

Ratios compare parts

Write the comparison in order

If there are 3 blue counters and 2 red counters, the ratio of blue to red is 3:2. Order matters: red to blue would be 2:3.
Write the comparison in order

Simplify by dividing both parts

A ratio can be simplified when both parts share a common factor. 6:9 can be divided by 3 on both sides, giving 2:3. The comparison stays the same, just written more neatly.
